Raise your hand if you love meat! I love making deli roll for Shabbos, but sometimes it’s fun to change your menu up a bit. I also like buying ground beef when it’s on sale, so this strudel was win-win! I aimed to make this dish using 1 pastry sheet, but I let the package of sheets defrost a little too long, and they molded into one. I used my rolling pin to create one HUGE slab of pastry dough, so it was a happy accident considering I had guests!

You will need:

1 thawed puff pastry sheet ( or 2 kneaded into 1)

2 tbs oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 tbs minced garlic

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

2 tbs ketchup

2 tbs bread crumbs

1 tbs parsley flakes

1 egg

1 tbs salt

(optional) 1/2 tbs black pepper

1 additional egg for wash , sesame seeds to sprinkle

Preheat oven to 400. Spray baking sheet with olive oil or Pam.

Lightly saute onion in olive oil, add garlic and cook until soft.

In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ketchup, bread crumbs, egg, parsley, salt and pepper. Add onion/garlic mixture to big bowl.

Soften edges of your pastry sheet, or roll out with a pin. Spread meat mixture lengthwise on the dough, and fold sides over meat, and fasten with your fingers.

When strudel is on your baking sheet wash it with egg and sprinkle on sesame seeds. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until dough looks crisp.

* Parchment paper can be used instead of olive oil/Pam spray.
